They hauled her to the dungeon without conversation and left her until the judge ordered her to his court. No questions about what happened, no discussion on who the victim was or even a chance to explain. The guards were having a busy night with crime running rampant in the lawless town. ![]() When others gathered around screaming “MURDER! Someone help!” she stood up with his blood on her hands. She understood from their view it probably seemed that way as her hands reached out to catch his fall. It was the other witnesses who claimed she had murdered him. The dagger was still in his chest as he fell forward into her. She was a victim just like the dead man who stumbled out of the darkness and into her path. She stared straight ahead, seeing nothing though many eyes were upon her. The gavel slammed onto the judge’s sound block.
